Frequently Asked Questions….

Why don’t you let us ride without helmets?

The short answer, because the insurance company says you have to. The real answer, because horses like any large animal are unpredictable and we do not want anyone to get hurt. Riders 16 years and older are not required to wear helmets, but we encourage all riders to wear them. We have helmets available for any riders that desire to wear one. All riders, regardless of whether or not they wear a helmet, must sign a waiver releasing us from liability. Riders under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.

What do I bring?

Be prepared for the weather!  Spring/Fall, you might need a jacket, gloves and hat if it’s cool out.  Summer, wear cooler clothes.  Sunscreen and bug spray are also a good idea. Don’t forget the cameras!  The trail guide has a saddle bag you can put on your gear in.  We have drinks and snacks available at the Camp store and Café. What not to take while riding– Keys, wallet, purse or anything else you might lose while riding a horse.   We do have a safe place to keep your keys while we ride so you can lock your cars.  We’ve had many riders lose keys, wallets, phones even money fall out of their pockets while riding.

What if it rains?

If it is raining or bad weather the day of your ride, we might have to cancel or reschedule.  We will do everything possible to get the ride rescheduled, as quickly as possible.  It’s important when you schedule a ride, to leave a cell number so we can keep in communication with you.

Can I ride double?

Absolutely not!  No riding young children with adult riders.  Just imagine if for some reason you cannot control your horse, what is going to happen with your child?  If your child is not old enough to ride by themselves, we just cannot allow a little one to ride with you.  Sorry!

Can I run or trot?

For safety reasons, We do not allow our horse to run or canter. Trotting? Maybe.  That depends on the rest of your group. If everyone in your group is willing to try a trot, then that’s great!  Away we go!  Keep in mind, it’s harder than it looks and a bit uncomfortable!

Is there a weight limit?

The best advice I can give is know your physical limits and abilities.  You will have to mount and dismount the horse, but we do have a step to help.  While riding you will also have to balance yourself. For the horse’s safety, 275 lbs. is our highest weight limit.  However, some riders who may not be height and weight proportionate may have a hard time riding. Also, please be honest about physical limitations.  Such as knee problems, hip problems, a bad back, etc.  This will make it easier for us to give an honest opinion on ride time limits.

How many riders can you take out? Safety is always the key!

This depends on the riding level of the riders.  We have great horses, but some are not for beginner riders.  It is very important to be honest about your riding ability when scheduling rides.  Riding a pony when you were 5 does not count as riding experience!   We can take out 1-7 riders at a time.  But not all of those horses are for beginners!  If you have a group larger than that, we may have to do 2 rides.

What do I wear?

We recommend jeans, shoes/boots, and a light weight top, t-shirt or tank top for Summer riding.  You can ride in shorts, but probably not a good idea, as the saddle can pinch your legs.  No flip flops, heels or sandals.  You’ll want a sturdy shoe/boot that covers your feet and toes.   Also, you may not want wear anything you don’t mind getting a little dirty! Here’s another thing to consider….    Guys may want to wear bike shorts under their pants.  I’ve even had some first time men riders mention a cup would be nice!  Ladies, a sports bra is a great idea!! Especially if you are interested in trotting, it can be a bit “bouncy”…

Is there an age Limit?

Riders must be 8 and over. Anyone under 8 can take a Corral pony ride. Anyone under 16 is required to wear a helmet, Ages 16 to 18 need a parental sign off to not wear the helmet.
